About Lucy
Meet Lucy
Although the skills mentioned in ‘About Lucy’ are valuable, my continuous love for fashion and the industry as a whole is what drives me. Though my entire life I have been interested in fashion, constantly sketching design ideas and learning about its history, my fascination began 4 years ago when I saw a photo of a dress designed by Annie Doble. The intricate beading and attention to detail inspired me, so soon after, I began beading. Then, when I wanted to bring my beadings to fruition by sewing them into a dress, I taught myself how to sew. I started with a simple shift dress as I was obsessed with the 60s trend. It was far from perfect, but from there I only got better, spending my entire summer behind my sewing machine honing my skills. By the end, I created the Dorothy dress, which you can see above in the ‘About Lucy’ section. (the white shift dress with the drop-waist plaid stripe)
In my freshman year of college, I designed for the Virgil Abloh Foundation’s fashion show in collaboration with the Vault. Though I had never designed professionally, I took on the challenge of creating 5 looks inspired by the 60s concept of retrofuturism and specifically the designs of Paco Rabanne, Andre Courreges, and Pierre Cardin.
The next semester, I began creating a case study for the fashion scholarship fund and discovered my love for brand strategy. I still have yet to submit it, but discovering this new passion led me to find an internship working as a marketing intern for the retailer Bolt and Spool. I create experience-based events to attract new customers and manage their social media platforms using my knowledge of brand strategy. This has been an amazing opportunity where I can apply my knowledge and bring my ideas to life.
Overall, whether it’s a case study, pitch deck, or piece I’m designing, I will always pour every ounce of my passion and dedication into my work. My notebook is evidence enough. Between my class notes and in each margin, you’ll find the design sketches and ideas for campaigns. At the end of the day, my skills may be important, but my passion and love for fashion are what set me apart.
